Volvo Trucks tells D.C. it’s ready for 2010

Tuesday. September 29. 2009

Volvo Trucks North America discussed readiness for the EPA2010 emissions regulations with lawmakers and regulators in Washington, D.C. on September 29 at the “Clean Diesel Power: Ready for Tomorrow, Working Today” event held by the Diesel Technology Forum. Volvo Trucks’ emissions technology will result in near-zero emissions and reduced CO2 output.

An EPA’10-compliant Volvo VN was on display at the event.  Volvo Trucks is already building EPA’10 trucks for customers on its production line in the New River Valley Plant, Dublin, Va., for delivery later this year.  Volvo Trucks will use selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology to meet the new emissions standards, the most stringent in the world.  SCR-equipped Volvo trucks have been in customer test fleets in North America for two years now, and have accumulated billions of miles of real-world operation in other markets.

In addition to reducing emissions to near-zero levels, SCR improves fuel economy and reduces operational costs.  Volvo’s SCR technology also eliminates diesel particulate filter (DPF) active regenerations for EPA’10 in normal operations, which reduces the need for operator interaction with the emissions control system.  Volvo Trucks’ “No Regen” engine and SCR improve fuel economy and result in a reduced carbon footprint.

Volvo’s D11, D13 and D16 diesel engine family are designed in compliance with its  core value of environmental care.  In addition, less fuel consumed contributes to bottom-line results for trucking companies, and reduced dependency on imported petroleum.

Volvo Trucks North America’s operations and products are guided by the company’s three core values:  Safety, Quality and Environmental Care.  The Volvo VN and VHD trucks are assembled in the United States at the New River Valley Plant in Dublin, Virginia, while Volvo engines for North America are assembled in Hagerstown, Maryland.  Both plants are certified to ISO14001 environmental and ISO9001 quality standards.

Volvo Trucks North America is part of the Volvo Group, one of the world's leading manufacturers of trucks, buses and construction equipment, drive systems for marine and industrial applications, aerospace components and services, and one of the world's leading producers of heavy-diesel engines (9-16 liter).  The Group also provides complete solutions for financing and service.  The Volvo Group, which employs about 100,000 people, has production facilities in 19 countries and sells their products in more than 180 markets.  Volvo Group sales for 2008 amounted to over $46 billion.  The Volvo Group is a publicly-held company headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden.  Volvo Shares are listed on Nasdaq OMX Nordic Exchange and are traded OTC in the U.S.
